Nothing says I love you like homemade muffins. Warm, perfectly-sized, and a little sweet, they are a great way to surprise someone in the morning (or heck, the afternoon). Happy Valentine’s Day!

BERRY CAKE
We all know it’s important to eat fruits and vegetables. But sometimes, you just need a cake. This recipe is quick and easy, and even a little bit healthier than usual—half whole-wheat flour, reduced sugar, and canola oil instead of butter—but the taste isn’t sacrificed. It is also a great way to get some fruit into your breakfast, if you like eating cake for breakfast, that is.

FIG AND GOAT CHEESE PIZZA

BANANA-NUT GRANOLA BARS
It’s back-to-school season, so what better time to make a healthy snack to grab on your way out the door? I have noticed that it is a little scary to read the back of those “regular” granola bars, so I have been spending extra money on “healthy and natural” ones. But every now and again over the years, I have made these homemade granola bars. These bars provide protein, some sugar, and fiber to help get you through a slump at school or work. Don’t expect a crispy, tooth-breaking bar here—the bars are cake-like in their texture. The oats are soft and chewy, with crunchy nuts and a strong banana scent.

CINNAMON CRÊPES WITH FRESH PEACH SAUCE

When I was in high school, I was a member of the French Club. Nerdy? Peut-être. We sat around after school speaking French and learning about French culture. At Christmastime, we decorated and ate Yule Logs. We ate brie and baguettes. And one day, we took over the Home Ec kitchens and learned to make crêpes.
